Recorded in Dublin in October 1975, the debut catches the original lineup at full tilt: Paddy Keenan's pipes, Matt Molloy's flute and Tommy Peoples' fiddle out front, with Dónal Lunny, Mícheál Ó Domhnaill and Tríona Ní Dhomhnaill driving underneath on bouzouki, guitar and clavinet. This is Peoples' only studio record with the band, and you can hear why people still talk about it. The reel sets hit like a rhythm section that happens to be playing trad, while Tríona's singing on Do You Love an Apple gives the record its still centre.
